Was stationed here for 8 months of advanced electronics schooling years ago. This was my first stop after Navy boot camp which was followed by transfer to the fleet.
Outstanding we have traveled throughout the United States visiting bases my wife is a lieutenant retired it we usually go to try and check out all the bases this one was outstanding
Loved the base, the chow and especially the people of Millington. Very pretty young ladies. :))
was stationed here during christmas of '68. 9 months total. looks very different now. most barracks were of 3 story wooden ww2 vintage. when i got there the new avioniks barracks had just been built a couple years before. i see they too have been torn down. they were built along navy road. on the west side youll see long buildings with orange like roofs. these were cold storage. the long building was both frozen and fresh food. the two shorter buildings were dry storage. marine chow hall was lower left, navy chow hall was lower center. most of the classrooms were across navy road, ( north side ). most of the training had to do with aircraft maintenance.
Nice Naval station in Memphis. The NEX is a fun place to checkout. People are friendly and station was clean and easy to get around.
memphis was a great military town. we were treated very good for the most part.
July August September October 1987 . The barracks where AO would stay , we had put MK 82 bombs all around it and had them painted .Our place looks dam good..Can't remember PO1 who was in charge but he was a Cuban ,he was the one that came up with the idea....Dam good memories
